Kazuma Sakakibara

I joined Forge in 2019 after walking by one night and spotting a safety squat bar through the window; something I’d been looking for due to a surgery having limited my shoulder mobility. I’ve been hooked ever since!

Lifting things up and putting them down has been a hobby of mine for 20 years now, and in that time I’ve been to more gyms than I can count (which to be fair isn’t that high).

There are many things I love about this place. The tidiness, the bookable spaces, the sea of squat racks, and especially the specialty equipment. Despite a shoulder surgery, a couple disc injuries and a bout of sciatica, the plethora of unique equipment that Forge carries has allowed me to continue lifting and rehabbing through it all.

But most of all, as everyone else has said, Forge has an incredible sense of community. I’ve never been that chatty at the gym, but I always appreciate the friendly smiles and upbeat chatter going on around me. I’ve met some great people here, and it makes it that much easier to get myself to the gym on the days where motivation is low.

I am honoured to receive this award and look forward to putting “Forge MOM” on my resume
